Watch Zara Larsson Takes You on a Tour of Her Hometown (Stockholm) | Glamour Video | CNE | Glamour.com
I love crayfish.
Ooh, I love it so much!
I’m Zara Larsson and I’m going to show you how to have
the ultimate Swedish experience.
I will take you on a little tour to some
of my favorite places and some of my favorite memories
in Stockholm.
Stockholm is a collection of small little islands.
There’s always water, like close to you,
if you’re in central.
This is actually my school, the Royal Swedish Ballet School.
I went there for the majority of my school years.
On the beautiful summer days, we would spend time
on this little viewing point, I guess it is.
See? They’re just chilling.
They’re just having a good old time.
This, this little place right here.
This is my school.
This is our city hall right here
where we have the, the Nobel Prize,
and this is like the old town over here
which I’m going to get to in a minute.
So we were very lucky to have this stunning view
in the school yard, basically.
So this is where we would just like,
I would go up and like have a cheeky cigarette here.
No, I would never do that.
So we went to school here
and then on the summer days, we will go, you see here.
So kinda around here is where we would go swimming,
and it looks like this.
This is one of them.
It looks not very swim-friendly,
’cause they took this in the fall, obviously.
But I love to go here and swim with my friends.
We’re quite an active outdoor people,
not like Norwegians.
I feel like Norwegians love to go out to walk in
or to be in nature.
But Swedish people, we do really,
really appreciate the summers.
We have some really long and nasty and dark winters.
So when the sun is finally shining upon us
I think every Swede feels really, really guilty
if they spend even an hour inside.
Like you just go out, you pack your swimsuit
or your little picnic blanket
and you are trying your hardest to stay out
for as long as you possibly can.
So let’s go to the old town.
It’s right here.
It’s very, very cute.
I think this is definitely something you have to do
as a tourist.
I picked Five Small Houses because it’s such a traditional,
like, I think it’s the oldest restaurant
in all of Sweden and it’s just the classics.
But then if you want to get a little bit more fancy,
there is stuff for that, as well.
But I think it’s a really nice taste of,
like, traditional Swedish.
I think they do have meatballs there.
I’m actually not sure.
They definitely have some like, elk.
They have some Toast Skagen,
which is one of my absolute favorites.
It’s shrimp on a yummy piece of buttered toast,
like, you know, we fry it with butter in the pan.
Don’t toast it, do it for real,
and then you have, that with like, oh, it’s so good,
and then maybe some fish roe with like sour cream,
red onion.
[beep sounds]
Oh my gosh.
Hey, my name is Lamin and I’m a friend of Zara’s
and one of my favorite places that we’ve been to is
probably going to have to be her summer house in Sweden.
So we went there this summer
to celebrate Swedish Kräftskiva.
Period.
So it’s basically like a crayfish party.
Yes it is.
And, yeah, we had a great time and I can’t wait to go back
and hopefully make that a tradition.
So yeah, unfortunately I can’t be there right now.
I would love to because it’s so beautiful.
But yeah, hopefully next summer.
[laughs] That’s so cute.
Are you serious?
I love crayfish.
Oh, I love it so much!
It’s a very seasonal thing.
So you’d only have it from like end of August
’till the beginning of September.
Crayfish fishing in my childhood,
we always did that every year.
I just loved it and we were up all night.
‘Cause you fished them in like the nighttime.
Gosh, I count down the days
’till this place right here opens up.
This is one of my favorite restaurants to get some crayfish.
[whispers] I love it so much.
If you like, if you like, like boiled crab and stuff,
I think you would enjoy our version as well.
It’s nice and salty and like savory and yummy.
[beep sounds] Oh my mom.
What’s she gonna say?
She’s, is she literally in her sauna right now?
She is, I’m done. Hi.
I’m Zara’s mom.
Right now I’m sitting in our sauna.
Yes.
And she really loves to go here
when she’s coming home and visit us.
Yes.
She usually just push herself in here
without taking her clothes off and just chill.
And just chill.
And then she just loves to go to spa.
Do you remember Zara, when we took grandma
to Grand Hotel Spa and we have to push her up
from the pool because she couldn’t go up by herself?
[laughs] That was fun.
Have a great time and we miss you, bye!
Ah, I want my mom to be a YouTuber.
My grandma is old.
My grandma is like, pushing 90,
so she was in there swimming
and then she just needed a little extra help up.
I’m always going to be there for you, Grandma.
If you need a push up from a pool, I got you.
This is my favorite spa.
It looks like this from the outside.
This is Grand Hotel.
So inside here they have a beautiful spa
and I just find it so relaxing.
Spa time, it’s ah, it’s so good.
I just want to like be really, really hot,
and then I want to be really, really cold
and then I want to be hot and cold and hot and cold.
Nordic culture, specifically Finnish, but also Swedish,
we have saunas and we love our saunas.
Really, really love them.
They have to be very dry.
I don’t want a steam room, I want like a dry sauna
and I don’t know what it is, but I remember like,
in my elementary school, when I was,
from six ’till nine years old, our school had a sauna.
So we would go in there every week.
This is how you enjoy winter time in Sweden.
You go and you jump in the water, freezing cold,
like literally drill a hole in the ice,
jump in, run back to the sauna.
And what people say is
that it really strengthens your immune system.
Well, I don’t know, it shocks your body a bit
but once you do that a lot, I think it really,
it’s very beneficial and it’s extremely relaxing.
[beep sounds] Simon, my drummer.
Hello, this is Simon.
I am Zara’s drummer
and this is the place where we usually meet
and that’s behind my drums and yeah,
I have a lovely memory with Zara from this awesome venue
in Stockholm called Gröna Lund. – Aww.
Where we also played our most recent show,
and where I showed her some awesome drumming skills
[laughs] which you can see here.
Yeah, that was fun and I really hope we can go back there
and play soon together.
I love Gröna Lund.
That’s also such like a big childhood memory.
It is an amusement park and sometimes I would just go there
with my friends to like hang out, you know,
but they also do iconic shows.
I think it’s one of the best venues, honestly,
like in Stockholm.
So this is inside.
Of course, no one’s here right now.
Oh, right here, I would hang out right here.
Right here.
We have [speaks Swedish]
Very fun, very fun.
This is where you see the stage.
So yeah, this is it.
It usually fits around 20,000 people here.
Some people can be standing on top here.
Some can be standing on top of here.
I’m also not only coming to like, ride on the attractions
but to go to shows, like go in and see artists perform here,
and then all of a sudden, I was one of them.
Like, that was huge for me.
It was really, really big.
It was one of those moments where it’s like,
Oh my gosh, I’m actually an artist.
[beep sounds] Oh my God, Michaela.
Hello, everybody.
I’m Michaela Hamilton.
I’m one of Zara’s best friends,
and I am currently at our favorite location in Stockholm,
called Fotografiska, and here we like to browse around,
we like to have some wine or some coffee
and watch the exhibits,
and just a little bonus for you.
[laughs] I found somebody, right here.
Ta-da! Mad gal.
You can buy her face here.
This is why she loves it so much.
Fotografiska is a place in Stockholm
where you can see really cool modern art.
You know, it’s all photographs and I had the honor to be
in one of the exhibitions that you saw.
It was really, really cool.
You can get a poster of me flipping you off.
It looks like this
and also surprise, it’s right by the water.
And this is actually it.
It looks like a very industrial building.
I’m sure it was something industrial a few years back.
That’s so nice that she was there.
I love that place, especially in the summer.
Outside, they have a beautiful little cafe
where you would like take a sip of wine and that.
We have Fika, and Fika is a coffee break
or whatever you want to drink break
and whatever you want to eat break in the afternoon
with some friends and you just catch up
and you talk about life.
Swedish people love coffee, like, love coffee.
I don’t know what it is.
I personally don’t, it just makes me anxious.
It makes me want to go to the bathroom,
if you know what I mean.
[beep sounds] Lovisa!
Oh, I know where she’s at.
Hi, my name is Lovisa and I am Zara’s guitarist.
A place I think of when I think of Zara is
Arlanda Airport in Stockholm.
Here’s Zara at Arlanda Airport.
And maybe that’s a weird place, I don’t know,
but it’s a very special place for me, because.
Wait, I was like, who is that weirdo in the background,
just sitting still?
That’s me.
It’s like, okay, it’s a green screen situation.
Moving on. [chuckles]
Every time we meet up there with Zara,
the rest of the band and the crew,
we’re always, always so excited because we’re going
on tour and that’s the best feeling ever.
That’s true.
It’s been a really weird year now
and we haven’t been able to travel at all,
and I miss that so much and I miss you, Zara.
Aww.
And I miss Arlanda Airport
and I miss the excitement of going on tour.
So I hope we can do that soon again.
I agree. She’s completely right.
I love meeting everybody at the airport.
I like going out for adventures in the world.
I can’t wait to get back to that life.
It’s also funny because they do have a lot of faces
in Arlanda Airport where there’s like,
Hey, welcome to my hometown, basically.
So if you ever go to Sweden and you’re in Terminal Five,
you might see my face.
I always get a bit embarrassed, like when I travel
and I have to walk past that, I’m like.
I don’t know why, it’s really fun.
It’s amazing to have your face there
and to be a part of like, welcoming people to your hometown.
I really miss my band, and hopefully sooner
rather than later, I’ll be able to go out in the world
and play music for you guys.
[gentle music]
Looking at this map, it makes me miss home a lot.
I think Stockholm objectively just is one
of the most beautiful cities in the world
with a lot of amazing culture, a lot of diversity,
a lot of great music, great food, great fashion.
So I’m happy you got to see a little glimpse of my hometown.
[gentle music]
